24 hours After North East Governors Met In Damaturu To Discuss Security, Boko Haram Over Run Army Brigade, Kill Soldiers

24 hours After North East Governors Met In Damaturu

OpenLife Nigeria reports that Boko Haram fighters attacked the Nigerian Army’s 27 Task Force Brigade in Buni Yadi, Yobe State, early Saturday, killing four soldiers and destroying military equipment.

A security source who survived said the gunmen struck around 2 a.m., catching troops off guard with heavy gunfire and explosions.
“We lost four men and some of our equipment. It was a tough battle,” he said.

The Army confirmed the attack on its official Facebook page, noting that troops of Operation Hadin Kai were engaging the insurgents in Buni Gari.

Buni Yadi, about 65km from Damaturu and hometown of Governor Mai Mala Buni, has seen repeated attacks. Residents fled their homes as troops shut down the highway linking Yobe to parts of Borno.

Just two weeks ago, three soldiers were killed in a similar attack in the same area.

The assault came less than 24 hours after North East governors met in Damaturu to discuss security challenges in the region.
